Why didn’t disney release accurate Toy Story figures?

Question by helly: Why didn’t disney release accurate Toy Story figures?
I was surprised that the Buzz Lightyear doll released couldn’t do all the things that the Buzz in the movie can do, like karate chop action, etc, and the helmet button. I mean, the film was based on toys, after all, so they must have realised that people would want to buy those toys for real. Why make them substandard?

Good question–I looked everywhere for a good Buzz Lightyear for my son, who loves the movies. Unfortunately all I could find was a stuffed version, a version that had too many “bells and whistles” and one that was a totally different color from the original. Stupid.

As far as the helmet goes I’m guessing too fiddly to get to work properly. As for the others, fitting in a wing mechanism and a karate chop action just ain’t do-able, never mind the speed those wings are supposed to shoot out at, can’t see a toy getting issued with that strong a spring in it, not in these days of wrap-the-world-in-cotton-wool (so-noone-could-get-hurt) ( and then sue if they did ).
But good point, I’d like to hear a real answer from the manufacturers..
